Jean-Luc Margot, a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is an astronomer of international renown for his work in planetary radar astronomy, high-precision measurements of the rotations of planetary bodies, and the search for technosignatures. He is set to become a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium before the end of the year. He also heads the UCLA SETI initiative and has worked with over 200 students and 40,000 volunteers in the search for life in the universe.
From September, he will be working within the Astronomy and Dynamical Systems (ASD) team, alongside N. Rambaux (Sorbonne University) and J. Laskar (CNRS), on the study of Venus – the target of the forthcoming Envision mission – as well as on the study of icy moons and small bodies in the Solar System.
He will be giving public talks on the search for technosignatures and on high-precision radar measurements of planetary rotation, which you will be able to find in the newsletter and on our LinkedIn page shortly.
